For me, writing ‘Survive To Flourish’ has fulfilled my need to be understood, but the greater need was to share my experiences to help as many people as possible with their journey. I wanted the book to be easy to read, to be a source of inspiration and guidance to turn to, to let people know that everyone deals with poor mental health at some point in their life, and to document a tough part of my life for generations of my family to reflect on when they ask themselves the question ‘who am I?’

We always tend to look backwards for answers before we look forwards to life.

Inspirational creative problem solving.

Finding that elusive answer to your latest challenge will more than likely happen when you
least expect it. A discussion with somebody outside of your usual circle, an unrelated article
you read when you’re not even thinking about the problem, being in a different environment to what
you’re used to or experiencing something that you have never done before.

These are moments when we naturally become creative, a space that allows us the distance
to see the challenge from a new perspective and to challenge accepted or conventional
wisdom.

Managing complex client / team relationships.

One difficult client can ruin your day, week, year, business… not to mention the impact that will have on your family life. Managing challenging behaviour has been at the heart of my working life, from the Royal Marines to the classroom, from rehabilitating ex-offenders to training teachers to navigate the most difficult students. There’s no quick fix, but developing this skill is vital to longevity in business.

Use curiosity, clarity of communication, and understand your client model.

Self/team-development to improve quality of life and work.

Realising your potential requires you to explore your true self. By better understanding what your emotions are telling you, and developing a connection with your feelings, you can learn to enjoy life with more clarity of thought, purpose, and meaning.

Never stop learning new things about yourself, increase self-discipline, ignite your curiosity, learn from others, and maintain good mental and physical health.

Nail down the basics and grow from discomfort.

Getting the balance right is complex and everchanging, and there are times when we have to ‘fight’ through a challenge knowing that we will be depleted from the experience, whether all goes according to plan or not.

The biggest impact on our ability to maintain good decision-making hinges upon how well we master the basics and how we operate when it all goes awry.
